September 1999 was the beginning of my adoration for the Australian Shepherd.  A friend who does Search and Rescue as well as teach canine obedience mentioned that she had seriously considered "the Aussie" when looking for a new breed.  Coincidentally, another friend who has owned Aussies ever since I can remember was going down to watch a day of the Australian Shepherd Club of America Nationals which were being held in Longview, WA that month.

KerryThe grounds were a showcase for the breed.  Puppies and dogs of all colors with individual patterns were everywhere.  Then, after watching some of the stockdog work, I was hooked.  Having been raised on a dairy farm I could truly appreciate the work going on in the arena in front of me.

I first started out showing conformation.  I then moved onto mainly agility and herding with an occasional conformation show still thrown in the agenda.  Most of the conformation showing I've done in the last several years has been at a National for the Aussie.  I attended the 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006 ASCA Nationals.  I also made a trip to Grays Summit, Missouri for the 2006 USASA Nationals.

KerryAgility has been my main focus and forte the last several years.  I have attended agility seminars from Greg and Laura Derrett, Barb Davis, Stuart Mah and Susan Perry.  Herding seminars and instruction has come from Jan Wesen, Bob Vest and Jerry Rowe.

There is a saying I learned of early on that stands true for me and that is "Aussies are like potato chips, you can't have just one."  I brought home my first Australian Shepherd, Robin, in October of 1999.....
